Arms Open Wide by Sherri Gragg

The subtitle of this book, a call to linger in the Savior’s presence, was what initially caught my attention and then captivated my heart as I began to read through this unique devotional. The book itself was beautifully designed from its hardcover and sturdy pages to the pleasing page layout. Each chapter is only a few pages long to enable the reader to take time to reflect on the writing. The author uses a fictional narrative approach in presenting Scriptural accounts of the life of Christ. Well researched historical details are interwoven with Biblical accounts to transport us to the time and place they occurred. I appreciate the efforts Gragg took to portray familiar stories in a creative yet credible perspective in order to enliven the imagination as we seek to know Jesus more. Scripture passages at the beginning and prayers at the end of the chapters encourage the reader to commune with the Lord on a daily basis. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who appreciates good storytelling rooted in God’s Word.
