Believe: Living the story of the Bible to become like Jesus, edited by Randy Frazee

I was not sure what to expect when I ordered this book described as “selections from the New International Version” and it took me several chapters to understand its purpose. Three big questions are addressed: What do I believe? What should I do? Who am I becoming? Each of those three sections contain ten chapters that focus on the multifaceted details of the Christian life. Each chapter has commentary and lengthy passages from the Bible written in a flowing narrative to create a storytelling style of conveying the pertinent information. I found the format difficult to follow and got bogged down in the continual back and forth between narrator and Scriptures. I did not see any particular organization to all of the various verses selected for each topic. It seems to be geared toward new believers, who would benefit from studying the foundational aspects of the faith in a topical Bible study format. However, the sheer size of this 500 page book may be intimidating to some readers.
