Hiding in the Light, by Rifqa Bary

It is difficult to imagine the level of persecution many Christians face simply due to their beliefs and nonconformity to the religion of the majority in their country or even their own family. Such was the case for this courageous young woman, who tells her painful story in this book. She explains “why I risked everything to leave Islam and follow Jesus” in running away from her home in Ohio, not only to practice her faith openly but to protect herself from the abuse and threats of her devout Muslim father. The book chronicles her childhood and acceptance of Christ, the escalating risks of her decision, and her relationships with the people who helped her along the way. A lengthy custody battle ensued until she aged out of the system at eighteen. She keeps her whereabouts secret due to ongoing concern for her safety, although her father denies that she is in any danger. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys true stories of faithful followers of Christ in the face of opposition, as they can strengthen our faith in times of testing and encourage us to trust God no matter what the cost. You can watch and listen to her remarkable testimony here.
